This is a photo-etched detail set from the Polish manufacturer Aber in 1:48 scale, listed as the additional set vol. 2 and focused on the fenders. It is neither a model nor a tank kit; it is an accessory that assumes you already have a plastic kit of the Pz.Kpfw. IV medium tank in the Ausf. H version or in the early Ausf. J form. The parts are etched from thin metal sheet, so they have the correct scale thickness, which injection-molded plastic cannot offer for technical reasons.
The Pz.Kpfw. IV was the most numerous German medium tank of the Second World War and the only one to stay in production from its beginning to its end. The Ausf. H version of 1943 brought thicker frontal armor and the long 75 mm gun, and the early Ausf. J followed on from it directly with a simplified design. The fenders of these vehicles were made of thin sheet, bent and tore easily in the field and were often missing altogether, which is exactly why rendering them faithfully on a model stands out so much.
Take the photo-etched parts out of the fret with a sharp scalpel on a cutting mat, not by twisting them. Use a bending tool for the bends, or at least two razor blades and a flat surface; bend crisp edges along the scored line. They are bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate), and stronger joints will take soldering with a low-melting-point solder. On the fenders in particular it is worth carefully waving and tearing the metal, since simulating deformation and missing sections is the main reason for buying an etched replacement. Degrease the parts before painting and use a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint holds poorly on smooth brass.
This is a detail accessory, not a stand-alone model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
