This is an add-on set in 1:35 scale, not a vehicle kit. It represents the German portable anti-aircraft weapon designated the Luftfaust B. It is the kind of accessory that can give a diorama a specific date and mood, because weapons like this only appeared in the last months of the war.
The Luftfaust was an attempt to answer a pressing problem: the infantry had nothing effective against low-flying attack aircraft, machine guns rarely hit anything and heavy anti-aircraft weapons were too cumbersome and tied to their crews. The solution was meant to be a light rocket launcher carried by one man, which fired a bundle of small unguided rockets at once and created a cloud of fragments in front of the target. The version designated with the letter B had more barrels than the first form of the weapon and was to split the salvo into two quick bursts one after another, to raise the chance of a hit. The weapon got no further than the beginning of production and its combat use was minimal, so it belongs among the technical curiosities of the end of the war rather than among genuinely used armament.
The weapon makes sense in the hand of a figure or laid aside at a position, or else in a scene from the last weeks of the war. It pays not to overpaint it: a muted, simple shade fits late production better than careful camouflage. The tiny parts are joined with a glue of short setting time and the edges come alive with a light dry brush.
