T-26 model 1933 in 1:100 scale, a set of five vehicles

The package holds five models of the Soviet T-26 light tank in the single-turret model 1933 form. It is a resin kit for more experienced modelers: the parts are cast and have to be cut from the casting blocks before building. Five vehicles in 1:100 scale will cover a whole tank platoon without taking up more than the palm of a hand.

The real subject

The model 1933 is the best-known and most numerous form of the T-26. The two small turrets of the early series were replaced by a single cylindrical turret with a gun, which turned the light tank into a usable weapon against armored targets. Thousands were built and they served from the Spanish Civil War through the fighting in the Far East to the first year of the war with Germany, where they made up a substantial part of the Soviet tank units. A set of five vehicles matches the organization of a platoon of the day.

Building and painting tips

First wash the castings so that no mold release agent is left on them, cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surfaces by sanding wet and with respiratory protection. Cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) holds the joints. Apply a primer before painting. With five identical vehicles it pays to paint in series, but to tell every piece apart with a different amount of dust and mud, so the unit does not look like five castings from one mold.
