The ZTZ-99A is the main battle tank of the Chinese People's Liberation Army and the most widespread modernized version of the 99 series. It carries a 125 mm smoothbore gun with an autoloader, angular add-on armor on the front of the turret and blocks of explosive reactive armor. The silhouette is low and full of right-angled surfaces, on which thin metal accessories come out well.
This is a basic photo-etched set intended for the Border Model BT-022 kit. The photo-etched parts are of thin metal sheet, so they replace places where a plastic part would have to be unrealistically thick because of the way it is made. The exact breakdown of the parts and their placing on the model are to be found in the instructions supplied with the set.
Cut the parts out of the carrier sheet with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than breaking them out, otherwise they will bend. Make the bends along the scored lines, best in a photo-etch bender or between two metal rulers. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) applied in the tiniest amount; on larger areas a glue with slower setting helps, because it gives you time to line the part up. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with primer, otherwise the shade will rub off the smooth surface.
The set suits modelers who have already worked with photo-etch and want to give a model fineness of scale. Working with it calls for patience, a sharp blade and fine-tipped tweezers; the result is thin edges of a kind that cannot be made from plastic. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
