The M109 is an American 155 mm self-propelled howitzer on a tracked chassis, with a large traversing turret and a long barrel with a muzzle brake. It served the Israeli army in large numbers and the machines there carry a range of their own modifications, chiefly add-on boxes, baskets and carriers for the crew's gear. The designation given in the name of the set is used for the Israeli version.
This is a basic photo-etched set intended for the Kinetic 61009 kit. Photo-etched metal sheet suits exactly those places where a plastic part comes out too thick because of the way it is made, that is thin sheet metal, eyes, grab handles and grilled surfaces. The breakdown of the parts and their placing on the model are to be found in the instructions supplied with the set.
Separate the parts from the carrier sheet with a sharp blade on a hard surface; breaking them out bends them and they are then hard to straighten. Make the bends along the scored lines, best in a photo-etch bender or between two metal rulers, and in one movement. Use cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) in the tiniest amount; on larger parts a slower-setting variant helps, because it leaves time to line them up. Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with primer, otherwise the finish will rub off during handling.
The set will please modelers who build Israeli equipment and want a model that matches the scale in the small details too. Fine-tipped tweezers and a steady hand make the work easier. The kit, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
