An arrestor hook is not the privilege of carrier aircraft alone. A number of land-based fighters carry one too, the Tiger II among them, where it serves for an emergency catch on a cable stretched across the runway. It helps in cases where the brakes fail or a landing is aborted. On a model the hook is a small but clearly visible element on the underside of the rear fuselage, and the plastic part from a kit tends to be needlessly thick and simplified because of the limits of the mold.
Wash the part in lukewarm soapy water and let it dry. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw as close to the part as possible and level the face with wet sandpaper, with respiratory protection. Given the small dimensions, work over a tray from which the small part cannot be lost. It is glued with super glue applied with a pin, so that the excess does not run onto the surface around it. Paint the hook only after the underside of the fuselage has been varnished; contrasting stripes on it and a fine wash into the shadows will give it credibility.
