An accessory set in 1:48 scale devoted to the equipment of the fuselage spine of the F-4J Phantom II carrier fighter.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-4J is one of the carrier versions of the two-seat Phantom II fighter, which served with the US Navy and the Marine Corps. Behind the crew cockpit it carries a space with technical equipment on the spine of the fuselage, which on a finished model is usually hidden under panels and is easily forgotten during building.
The set in 1:48 scale is devoted to the equipment of the fuselage spine. The exact list of parts, their placing and the extent of the work that a kit will call for are given in the instructions supplied with the set. Before buying it pays to check whether the panels on the kit you have chosen allow an open build, or whether they will have to be cut away.
The parts are not made of polystyrene, so cement for plastic will not join them: use super glue, and a two-part resin for larger joints. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and carefully sand the rest down. Wash and degrease the parts before painting and apply a primer. Small assemblies are easier to paint before gluing, because once seated a brush will hardly reach them.
The set is intended for modelers who want to build the Phantom with the equipment exposed and are not afraid of work on the fuselage. Anyone building a closed model will not use it. In 1:48 scale such detail is clearly legible even in a display case, so the extra work shows. The model of the aircraft itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
