A kit of the French single-seat Dassault Mirage 2000C fighter in 1:72 scale from Modelsvit. The Ukrainian maker has made a name on prototypes and less usual types, and the Mirage 2000 belongs in its range to a whole family of related versions.
The Mirage 2000 is a single-engine tailless aircraft with a delta wing, in which Dassault returned to the proven aerodynamics of the 1960s but added deliberately reduced stability and fly-by-wire control. Thanks to that it has considerably better agility and behavior at low speeds than the older deltas, which was the weakness of the previous generation. It is powered by a SNECMA M53 engine with an afterburner. The 2000C version is single-seat and in the French Air Force it carried out above all the tasks of an interceptor; alongside a pair of 30 mm cannons it carried medium-range and short-range air-to-air guided missiles. It entered service in the middle of the 1980s and became the basis for a whole series of later versions and for export customers.
With kits from smaller production runs it pays to offer every assembly up dry first, especially the joint of the wing with the fuselage and the fitting of the intake duct. The sprue gates tend to be thicker, so cut the parts off with a knife instead of nipping them. The gray French scheme with a sharp transition of shades is best done by masking with thin tape, not freehand. Coat with a gloss varnish before the decals and then unify the surface with a semi-matte one.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Additional material for application is not included.
