Star Decals 1:72 decals for the M48A3 Patton tanks of the 69th Armored Regiment in Vietnam cover the markings of American machines from Southeast Asia. An addition to a built model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Star Decals has prepared in 1:72 scale a set of markings for M48A3 Patton medium tanks as the vehicles of the 69th Armored Regiment wore them in Vietnam. It is neither a model nor a kit, but decals for a modeler who already has the hull and the turret painted and wants to assign a particular unit to it.
The M48A3 was the rebuilt version of the Patton with a diesel engine, which increased its range compared with the earlier gasoline machines. In Vietnam these tanks came into their own escorting convoys, supporting infantry and securing bases, where their resistance to mines and anti-tank rockets was valued. The vehicles of the 69th Armored Regiment served in Southeast Asia from the middle of the 1960s and their turrets tended to be lettered with the names of the machines as well as tactical numbers.
The lettering and numbers on real Pattons were applied under field conditions, so a small irregularity in placement looks credible. Even the surface out with gloss varnish before marking, so that the edge of the membrane does not turn white. Put the weathering off until after the decals: dust from the laterite roads and traces of fording look better applied over finished markings and dusting them lightly.
