The item from SX-Art covers three versions of the famous Japanese carrier fighter at once. The masks serve to cover areas while spraying and save the modeler time and nerves over small shapes that would be hard to cut by hand. The package is an accessory for a model that you obtain separately.
The A6M2 is the version with which the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service entered the war in the Pacific and which earned a reputation as an exceptionally agile opponent with great range. The A6M3 brought modifications to the power unit and, in one of its sub-versions, clipped wingtips with rounded ends. The A6M5 was then the most numerously built variant, on which the designers concentrated on a higher permitted speed in a dive and on changes to the exhausts. The differences between the versions are most apparent precisely on the wing and in the shape of the glazing.
The shades of green and gray on these aircraft shifted during the war and modelers settle them according to the particular period. Decide on one scheme before you reach for the airbrush, because repainting under a mask afterwards never turns out well. It also pays to spray a sample on a piece of plastic first and judge the shade in the same light in which the model will be displayed.
