An SX-Art masking set made for the Bf 109 G-6 model in 1:35 scale. That scale comes as a surprise on an aircraft, because it is usually tied to ground vehicles, but on this type it is entirely in place: a Bf 109 G-6 kit in 1:35 really is made. The set serves for painting; it contains neither the model nor decals. It follows the dimensions of the Border kit.

The real subject

The G-6 was the most numerously built form of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 of all. Its mark of recognition became the bulges on the engine cowling, which came about because of the larger breeches of the synchronized 13 mm machine guns; it is from those that the machine earned the nickname Beule. It was built in an enormous range of detail modifications, from high-altitude fighters with power-boost injection to machines for night combat, so two aircraft of the same designation could look markedly different.

How to work with the mask

• Rid the base of grease; a fingerprint reliably guarantees that the paint will bleed under
• Spray mottled camouflage at lower pressure and with less paint
• For soft transitions lift the mask slightly, for crisp ones press it down fully
• Check the covering shade against the light, not only from above

Who the set is for

For modelers who build the Bf 109 in this less usual scale and want the markings and the camouflage fields cleanly bounded. The size of the model is somewhere between the usual 1:48 and 1:32, so it is comfortable to work even on details that are beyond the limit of patience in smaller scales.
