The second of the command figures of the British 1940 line from Dynamo-Models, 1:35 scale. The figure is captured in an alert stance, as if it were just taking a report or giving an order, and against the calm number one of the same line it brings tension into a scene.
For British units in France the spring of 1940 meant above all movement along roads, short halts in villages and improvised command posts over maps spread on the hood of a vehicle. That is exactly where the figure finds its place. It is not a figure for an attack but for a moment of decision. A command figure also gives a scene direction: a viewer instinctively follows where it is looking.
The face takes the most work, because on a command figure it is the first thing the eye falls on. Work in thin steps from a mid flesh tone toward brightened areas on the forehead, the nose and the cheekbones. The tie and the shirt are small areas that give a scene away if you miss the shade. The peaked cap deserves a sharp transition between the crown and the peak; that small detail decides the overall impression. Unify the boots and the straps at the end with light dust, so the figure does not look polished in the middle of a field scene.
