The first number of the cavalry sub-range of Dynamo-Models, carried in 1:35 scale and referring in the name to the year 1940. These are figures, not a vehicle kit, and they complete the French subject matter the manufacturer covers fairly widely - from infantry through crews to civilian figures.
In 1940 the cavalry of the French army was in a transitional phase, and that is what is interesting about it. Classic cavalry units existed alongside formations that were already motorized or armored, and it was precisely the cavalry divisions that received modern armored vehicles among the first. Into the fighting of May and June 1940 there thus went units that carried cavalry traditions and designations but moved in the field in an entirely new way. For a diorama that is a rewarding subject - the old and the new can be shown side by side in one scene.
Cavalry subject matter tempts one toward strong colors, but the field appearance of 1940 was muted. So keep the uniform in khaki and save the contrast for the leather items, which tended to be a distinctly warmer tone. Leather is painted differently from cloth: it can take a light sheen in the places where it rubs, while cloth should stay matte. Place the figure in the scene so that it leads the eye toward the main element of the diorama, and even the lower part out with dust matching the color of the base.
