A turned barrel for the 76 mm M1A1 gun for a model of the American M18 Hellcat tank destroyer in 1:35. It replaces the split barrel from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The M18 Hellcat was an American tank destroyer of the Second World War. It built on speed instead of armor: it had a light hull, an open-topped turret and was one of the fastest tracked machines of its day. Its main weapon was a 76 mm gun in the M1A1 pattern, that is a long slender barrel that forms the most conspicuous shape of the whole machine on a model. That is exactly why every inaccuracy shows on it.
This is a turned barrel for 1:35 scale, made for the M1A1 gun on an M18 model. A turned part is in one piece, so there is no longitudinal joint on it that you have to fill and sand on a split injection-molded barrel; the muzzle is drilled, so it looks like an opening rather than a dimple. The metal also holds its shape and does not warp.
Cut the original barrel off so that enough material is left in the mantlet for the seating; then carefully level the hole with a drill or a round file until the new barrel sits without pressure. Try it dry and look at the model from the front and from above, so that the barrel points straight and is not twisted. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, dosed drop by drop. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal and spray it with a primer made for metal, or the paint will rub off the edge of the muzzle.
This is an add-on part for building a model. The paints and the glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
