The M230 is a 30 mm automatic cannon which arms the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter. It is carried by a traversing mount under the nose, between the main landing gear wheels, and it aims together with the gunner's head, so the fire follows the direction in which the crew is looking. The weapon does not work on the gas-operated principle but is driven by an electric motor through a chain, which is where its usual name, the chain gun, comes from. The ammunition feed runs from the space behind the mount. On a model this is a clearly visible feature, because the mount hangs under the nose and nothing can cover it.

It replaces the cannon from the contents of the kit and deals above all with the barrel and the shape of the mount, that is the places where the plastic part from the kit runs up against its limits. The exact make-up of the set and the assembly sequence are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Before gluing, wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water and let them dry completely. Cut the excess material and the marks left by manufacture away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the remainder away to nothing. The material of the parts is not stated here: neither resin nor metal holds with cement for polystyrene, so make the joint with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Glue the barrel on only after the surroundings have been painted, because it is easily bent or soiled. Darken the muzzle of the barrel slightly once painted, but do not overdo the grime, so that the weapon does not look neglected.
For a modeler who is building the Apache in 1:35 scale and wants sharper armament than a production plastic part allows. The work is short and concentrates on one place on the model.
