The first part of a range devoted to StuG III assault guns outside the German army. This set covers the machines in the armament of Romania and Hungary. It is an accessory for a modeler who already has the vehicle built and painted and is looking for less usual markings for it.
The StuG III came about as an armored gun for direct support of the infantry, and it differs from a classic tank in its low silhouette and its fixed fighting superstructure with no rotating turret. Both Romania and Hungary took this type into their own units and gave it their national and tactical insignia, which differ markedly from the German ones. For a collection that means a machine with familiar outlines but a different attachment at first sight.
The low superstructure of the StuG offers fewer continuous areas than the hull of a tank, and what is smooth is often interrupted by an armor skirt, a bracket or tools. It pays, therefore, to go around the model before varnishing and determine where each marking will go. Apply the decals themselves onto a gloss layer and check the sloping surfaces of the fighting superstructure against the light, so that no air bubble is left under a design. Leave the patina until the end, otherwise you would needlessly knock down the intensity of the markings.
