These are turned replacement barrels for a model of the Flakpanzer E-100 vehicle in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit but a replacement for the plastic barrels from the box. On an anti-aircraft vehicle with twin armament that is a noticeable improvement: the barrels are long and slender and point upwards, so a viewer follows them first, and the plastic form has a parting seam along its whole length that is hard to sand on a part this slender. A turned part is round along its whole length and there is no risk of it being narrowed by sanding.
Flakpanzer E-100 is the designation for a German development project for an anti-aircraft vehicle built on the heaviest chassis of the E development series. A rotating turret with twin 88 mm guns was planned. The project stayed on paper and no machine was built, so models of this type fall into the category of realized project studies — they are built from surviving documentation and period drawings. That also means there is more freedom in working on such a model than on a type whose photographs everyone knows.
Turned parts are bonded with super glue; cement for plastic does not hold on metal. Before fitting them, check dry whether the barrels seat parallel in their mounts — with twin armament every deviation shows at once, because the eye compares one barrel against the other. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and spray it with a primer, or the paint will rub off in handling. Darken the muzzles with a smoke shade rather than pure black. If you are building the vehicle with the armament raised, reckon on the barrels being the most exposed part of the model every time it is carried — a display case or a transport box pays off.
