A small accessory for models of military vehicles and for dioramas in 1:35 scale. Boxes belong in scenes where something is being loaded, stacked or replenished, and they give a scene scale as well as a reason why the figures are standing just so. They come into their own on a vehicle bed, at an artillery position, in a depot, and also as a small thing that fills an empty spot in the lower part of a diorama. The exact intended use and the dimensions are given by the manufacturer on the packaging.
Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the rest back, so that the part seats squarely. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. Use cyanoacrylate glue and apply it drop by drop, otherwise it runs into the surroundings and clogs the detail. Try the position dry, above all where the box has to seat on an uneven surface.
Lay down the base shade, go over the recesses and the gaps with a dark wash and bring the edges out lightly with a dry brush in a lighter color. Work out the lettering and the numbering from period photographs. The accessory fits into a scene better with a muddy or scuffed surface than with clean paint straight from the bottle.
It suits builders of dioramas and modelers of military vehicles who finish a scene off with small things. It is exactly such items of equipment that set a model standing on a shelf apart from a scene that looks as if work had been going on in it a moment ago. The model, figures, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
