Low walls marking out yards, gardens and fields are among the most frequent backdrops of scenes from the Italian campaign. The roof tile of semicircular section, laid alternately hollow up and hollow down, covered in Italy not only houses but just these wall tops as well. It protected the masonry from water getting in and gave it that characteristic waviness by which the place is recognized at first glance.
The part measures twelve and a half by six and a half centimeters and joins three elements: a brick panel, two upright pillars and the tiles laid on top. The bricks have their joints picked out and irregular edges, as a bricklayer's hand lays them, not a machine.
This variant comes in the raw state, with no base layer applied. Anyone who keeps to his own color procedure or wants to try pigments and texture pastes will appreciate choosing the base himself and not having to adapt to what is already on the part. Before the first coat it is enough to free the surface of dust and let it dry thoroughly.
When putting together a longer wall it is good to allow for the southern tile having been laid in a regular rhythm, which ought to carry on across the joint. A slight turn of one piece against another, or sinking it a little deeper into the ground, breaks that rhythm far more naturally than an effort to line everything up perfectly straight.
The size is worked out for 1:35 scale. The segment stands on its own as a backdrop behind a vehicle, and equally it can be put together with further pieces into a longer run of wall, where the joint hides behind a pillar.
