A set of Star Decals markings in 1:35 scale for the vehicles of the British 3rd Infantry Division. The name gives the divisional sign and AoS markings.
The 3rd Infantry Division is among the oldest British formations and in the Second World War it went through the hardest sectors of the Western Front. On the morning of June 6, 1944 it landed on Sword Beach as the British infantry division of the first echelon and on that very first day its task was to advance deep inland toward Caen. After the exhausting fighting in Normandy it carried on through Belgium and the Netherlands into northern Germany, where it ended the war in the area of the lower reaches of the Weser.
British vehicles wore a uniform coat and without markings they look interchangeable. The divisional sign together with the AoS rectangle, by contrast, places a model with a unit and a date at once, so that a particular machine of a particular unit arises out of a generic armored vehicle.
The markings often fall on a surface with rivets or an engraved line. It helps to apply them onto a gloss base, press them down with a soft brush and let the softening fluid work without shifting them; the matte varnish comes only after they have dried completely. On vehicles from June 1944 a pale deposit of Normandy dust on the lower surfaces and in the wheel wells suits them as well.
The set holds markings; a vehicle, paints and varnishes are not in the package.
