A set of Star Decals markings in 1:35 scale for the vehicles of the British 43rd Infantry Division with the subtitle Wessex. Both formation markings and AoS markings are given in the name.
The 43rd Infantry Division came about as a Territorial formation from the counties of southwest England, from which its name comes as well. It entered the fighting in Normandy, where it made its mark in hard clashes over the heights south of Caen. In the autumn of 1944 it advanced as part of an operation that was to open the way to the lower Rhine, and it took part in the fighting in the winter and spring operations in the Netherlands and in Germany as well. This was infantry whose vehicle park ran from armored personnel carriers through artillery tractors to ambulance and supply vehicles.
The number in the colored rectangle was not random. The color of the ground corresponded to the arm of service, with one for the artillery, another for the engineers, the supply service or the medical service, and the number gave the order of the unit within the division. An ambulance of the same division therefore carried a different combination from an artillery tractor, even though they had the divisional sign in common.
Before you reach for the markings, think through which unit of the division you are building; the combination of sign and number has to fit the type of vehicle, otherwise the result will not stand up historically. A gloss base under the markings and a matte varnish once they are dry are especially noticeable with these small sharp rectangles.
The package holds only the markings; a model and paints are not included.
