Eighty-eight wartime posters from Britain and from the dominions, reduced for building dioramas in 1:35 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Wartime propaganda in the United Kingdom was aimed at the everyday behavior of the population. It called for silence in front of foreign ears, for growing vegetables in one's own garden, for saving fuel and for joining the auxiliary services. The graphic style was unmistakable: strong typography, a limited palette of colors dictated by the shortage of printing materials and a terse slogan that could be read from the other side of the street. Alongside the British sheets, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and India also issued versions of their own. Many designs moreover returned throughout the war, because a graphic form once established worked like a brand.
The set brings eighty-eight designs reduced to 1:35 scale. These are neither waterslide decals nor photo-etch, but printed sheets which are cut out and glued on. The preparation of the surface adapts to that: a brick wall, wooden boarding or the side of a vehicle has to be smooth and free of dust. The print is managed so that the text stays legible even after reduction, which is not a matter of course at such a small format.
It is details like these that give a static scene a story, because they tell a viewer when and where the action takes place before he has even looked at the equipment. The number of designs moreover allows you to choose according to where the scene fits, and the rest of the sheet stays in reserve for next time.
