A set of Star Decals for the British A34 Comet cruiser tank in the markings of the units stationed in Hong Kong. The theme, then, is not combat deployment in Europe but postwar garrison service in a British overseas possession, a subject that practically never occurs in the box sheets for the Comet.
The Comet was the last British cruiser tank that still managed to take part in the fighting of the Second World War. It was based on the Cromwell but received a newly arranged turret and the 77 mm HV gun, whose ballistics came close to the famous 17-pounder gun while fitting into the turret considerably better. Christie type suspension gave the vehicle high speed on a made-up road. After the war the Comet stayed in the armament for a number of years and the British army kept it in overseas garrisons too, Hong Kong among them.
Garrison vehicles tended to be better maintained than equipment in the field, so with this theme it pays to reach for a restrained patina and to concentrate rather on dust on the running gear and on a faded shade on the upper surfaces. Varnish the areas under the decals to a gloss, matte them down once they have dried and only then work with a wash. On the round sides of the turret you will seat the film more easily with the help of a softener.
