1:35 Bunker base

What the base captures

A terrain base for a diorama in 1:35 scale on the theme of a bunker. A fortified structure gives a scene a fixed point on which the whole composition can lean: the hardware and the figures around it gain a reason for being there, and the display holds together even without further buildings.

What it is suited to

The ground takes care of the shape of the terrain and the boundaries of the display, so layering filler and modeling soil both fall away. That leaves you time for painting, aging and the arrangement of the accessories. It is exactly those that place the scene in a particular period, whether you build a sentry at the entrance or an abandoned position after a withdrawal.

Building and painting tips

Wash and degrease the surface before painting, so that the paint holds. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the base and sand the surface. Choose the paints and the glue according to the material of the base; the exact procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions. On concrete surfaces, a muted gray with slightly different shades for the individual walls, a dark glaze drawn into the recesses and a light dusting in the shade of the surrounding soil at the lower edges have proved themselves.

Who it is for

For modelers who build a military diorama in 1:35 scale and want terrain with an event under their hardware and figures. It will also serve as a display ground of its own under a single model, because it forms a self-contained display by itself. Even a less experienced builder will manage the work; the most demanding part, shaping the terrain, is done.

Paints, glue and modeling tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
