The first pair of Red Army sappers from the Chernozem series, 1:35 scale, brings figures absorbed in work into a scene.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set is given in the name as the third item of the Chernozem series and at the same time as the first pair of sappers. The data on two figures comes from the name; nothing about the material or about the exact poses can be derived from it.
Sappers are among the most rewarding figures for a scene, because they are almost always doing something with their hands. Digging, surveying, laying and clearing obstacles or reinforcing a crossing are activities that tie a figure to the terrain and to the objects around it, so the scene does not look static. The series to which this set belongs takes its name from chernozem, that is from the soil whose dark shade is typical of the eastern battlefield.
When figures work with the earth, it has to show on them. Build the deposit of soil from the bottom upward and let it gradually fade; the darkest and wettest looking layer belongs to the footwear, higher up it is only dust. Bring the handles of the tools to life with a warm tone, so that they do not merge with the uniform. Mix the dark soil on the base from two close shades, because a uniform area looks flat even under good light. Footprints and the imprints of tools in fresh soil give the scene the last missing layer.
