A diorama base in 1:35 scale from Black Dog. The motif it carries in its name is the wreck of the German light cross-country Kübelwagen set into a section of terrain. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a finished foundation for a scene, on which a figure or a small group of vehicles will come out.
The Kübelwagen Type 82 was a light cross-country car on a chassis derived from the civilian Volkswagen. The Wehrmacht used it on every battlefield of the Second World War as a liaison, staff and reconnaissance vehicle; its low weight, thanks to which a crew could push it out of mud, was valued, while its weakness was drive to the rear axle only. Abandoned and shot-up examples were among the typical backdrops of a retreating front, so a wreck as a diorama motif is historically credible.
Wash the surface before painting and let it dry thoroughly. On a wreck a procedure from the bare structure outwards works: first a dark base and rust, and only then the remains of the original shade applied so that the tone underneath shows through in places. Suggest peeling paint with the chipping technique, and the remains of glass and headlights with a gloss varnish. Complete the terrain around the car with pigments and static grass, so that the composition shows how long the wreck has stood there.
