The ground from the manufacturer Black Dog is prepared for 1:35 scale and its central motif is a destroyed American vehicle of the M2 type. The goods are a scenic base, not a kit of a vehicle, so the wreck is a fixed part of the display and no running model can be built from it.
A damaged machine is the strongest point in a display, because it organizes everything else around itself. A model of your own standing a little way off gains a role through it, and the viewer works out the sequence of events unaided. At the same time it is a convenient solution for a modeler who wants a second vehicle in the display case but does not want to build a whole further kit for it.
A wreck deserves a different approach than running hardware. Let the base color be broken through by darker patches, over which the rust is only then applied, and that in two or three shades, because fresh and old corrosion differ. Suggest spilled oil in a glossy dark shade over small areas only, or the display will go flat. Unify the surrounding terrain with dust that reaches the underside of the wreck as well, so the machine does not sit in the ground like a foreign body.
