Laser-cut model foliage from the manufacturer Model Scene in a recommended scale of 1:35. It is not a finished tree and not a kit — it is a loose scenery material made up of tiny leaves cut into the characteristic lobed shape of an oak leaf, in summer green. The oak leaf is one of the most recognizable shapes of all, so it gives a scene a concrete botanical identity: the viewer can tell which tree the action is taking place under.

Use

• Leaf litter on the ground — under trees, at the foot of walls, into ditches, the corners of a yard and between roots
• Fallen leaves on roofs, in gutters and on the window sills of buildings
• Leaves caught on vehicles — on engine decks, tarpaulins, fenders and in the bed of a truck
• Foliage for a tree you have made yourself — attached to a wire or moss armature
• Filling out bushes and undergrowth where a readable leaf shape is missing

Tips for working it

On the ground, sprinkle the leaves through a fine sieve so that the layer stays irregular, and fix them with thinned PVA glue or matte medium from a sprayer. Try to avoid a drop of glue on the surface of a leaf, as it would end up glossy. Lay individual leaves in exposed spots with tweezers. When foliating a tree, apply the glue to the twigs, sprinkle the leaves from above and shake the excess off. The realistic effect comes from mixing — add a little of another species and a few leaves in a different shade, so that the carpet is not uniform.
