A photo-etched accessory set for a model of the Elco PT 596 torpedo boat in 1:35 scale. Thin metal parts replace the places where plastic necessarily comes out thicker.
Responsibility details are not available.
The abbreviation PT in the designation stands for patrol torpedo, that is, a patrol torpedo boat. The US Navy used them in the Second World War wherever speed and shallow draft counted for more than armor: on night raids, on transport duties and on patrol in shallow waters. Boats built by the Elco firm made up the most numerous group, and the number in the designation, here PT 596, belongs to one particular boat. In 1:35 scale the model comes out long and full of detail, so every item of the deck fittings shows on it.
Photo-etched parts are etched into thin metal sheet. They come into their own exactly where injection-molded plastic necessarily comes out thicker than the real thing, that is, on railings, gratings, eyes, brackets and small deck fittings. On a model of a boat there are many such places, because the deck is open and nothing on it can hide. Which items the fret contains and where they belong on the model are given in the manufacturer's instructions; the name gives only the subject and the scale.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface and never tear them out, or the edge will bend. Make the folds over a straight edge and press along the whole length at once; a railing folded in sections will never come out straight. Apply cyanoacrylate glue in the tiniest amount, for instance on the tip of a wire, so that it does not flood the detail around it. Wash and degrease the metal before painting and go over it with a base color, otherwise the finish comes off during handling.
The model of the boat, the paints, the glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
