An industrial setting has a different atmosphere in a diorama from residential buildings. Concrete, steel and large empty surfaces feel cold and raw, which gives a figure quite a different expression from a picturesque alley. This base from the Black Dog brand in 1:35 scale offers that register ready-made, so you do not have to build it from card and filler yourself.
Irregularity is what decides. While a residential house collapses in layers, an industrial hall breaks along its load-bearing structure, so open views and unexpected cut-outs appear. For a modeler that is an advantage: every view of the display case looks different and the scene cannot be exhausted in a single photograph.
Never mix concrete into a pure gray. Add a hint of ocher or green, so that the surface does not look like modeling clay. Pull the stains of seepage from the top down in thin vertical strokes and leave them irregularly broken. Weather the steel elements with a darker rust than on vehicles, because structural steel corrodes into deeper tones. Settle the dust on the horizontal ledges and at the foot of the structures.
