A fireplace 1:35 is a diorama accessory for interior scenes, not a kit. In a wrecked house a fireplace tends to be the element that stays standing even when nothing but rubble is left of the walls.

An accessory from the Czech maker Hauler for interior dioramas and vignettes in 1:35 scale. It is not a model of equipment but a fixed part of a building around which a whole scene can be built. A fireplace settles where the center of the action in a room is, and in a damaged interior it serves as a vertical anchor of the composition, to which the collapsed masonry and rubble are tied.
The open masonry hearth with a mantel and a chimney breast belonged to the living rooms of European houses for centuries. The masonry tended to be plastered or faced, the mouth of the hearth blackened with soot, and the mantel served as a surface to put things down on. In wartime photographs of wrecked houses the chimney breast with the fireplace is regularly the best-preserved part of the building, because it is massive and carries itself.
Painted masonry needs plenty of layers and little regularity. Begin with a dark base, spray a lighter gray or brick tone over it and let the base show through in the corners and the joints. Then comes a thinned wash that runs into the joints, and drybrushing, with which you bring out the edges of the bricks and the plaster. Darken the inside of the hearth and the area around the mouth with a black pigment applied dry with a soft brush: soot never has a sharp boundary, and the transition has to be soft. A little fine pigment can be shaken into the ash pit and a few pieces of wood from a toothpick added. Onto the mantel and the floor around it scatter rubble of the same material you use in the surroundings, or the fireplace will stand out of the scene as a foreign element.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. A base, glue and paints are not included in the package.
