1:35 Flower Pots

Flower pots in 1:35 scale from Matho Models

The Flower Pots set from Matho Models contains miniature flower pots in 1:35 scale. It is a diorama prop, not a kit, a small civilian detail that can turn the austere front of a building into a lived-in house. A flower pot on a window sill or by a door is exactly the feature by which a viewer sees that somebody lives in a scene.

Use in a diorama

Place the flower pots on window sills, the steps in front of an entrance, balconies, yards and in gardens. They work in historical and modern subjects alike, from a village house to a city street. They are strong in the contrast of a wartime scene too: a broken flower pot by a wrenched-off door tells of an everyday life cut short. The set is naturally complemented by low vegetation, from which you make the plants for the pots, and by other props such as watering cans or crates.

Tips for painting and planting

Paint classic flower pots in shades of terracotta with fine lightening of the upper edges; you can suggest lime deposits with a diluted light color running down from the rim. Fill the inside with dark soil, a fine scatter fixed with diluted glue is enough, and plant clumps of vegetation in it. Some of the pots can stay empty or tipped over, which looks natural. Wash the miniatures before painting and lay down a base coat.
