The MP 28 is a German submachine gun designed by Hugo Schmeisser as the direct successor to the MP 18 submachine gun of the end of the First World War. Compared with its predecessor it received a simpler and more reliable feed from a straight inserted box magazine and a revised trigger mechanism. In the 1920s and 1930s it was among the most widespread weapons of its kind and was exported to a number of countries; in the Second World War it appeared with police and rear-area units as well as with troops that took it over from captured stocks. For dioramas it is interesting precisely because it suits interwar as well as wartime subjects.
Leave the wooden stock on a brown base and glaze it gently, keep the metal parts in a dark cool tone and polish only the edges and worn places lightly. It pays off to make the sling from a strip of kitchen foil - it can be shaped and on a figure it reads more naturally than a cast part. Put the weapon into a figure's hands only after the arms are settled, otherwise the natural angle of the hold will not come out.
