About product

Photo-etched fenders Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.A 1:35 from Voyager Model

This item is not a kit of the tank but a photo-etched add-on set. It holds brass parts with which the fenders and the sheet-metal features around them are replaced on a plastic model you already own. Voyager Model is a Chinese manufacturer specializing in photo-etched accessories for military subjects, mostly in 1:35 scale. The set is designed for the Dragon 6747 kit, so on another kit it need not fit.

The real subject

The Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.A was the first production version of the German Panzer IV medium tank, from the late 1930s. It had thin armor and a short 75 mm gun meant above all for fire against field fortifications and unarmored targets. The batch was small and the machines served mainly for training and in the first wartime campaigns. Typical features of the hull are the straight fenders with their supports and hinged leading plates, that is parts that in plastic are always substantially thicker than the scale would call for, for technological reasons.

Tips on bending and gluing

Long straight parts are the most demanding discipline with photo-etched parts. Make the bend in one operation along the whole length, ideally in a bending tool or between two steel blades pressed to the marked groove, and never gradually in sections, otherwise a wave will form. Degrease the brass before working and, if it springs back a great deal, warm it briefly so that it softens. Glue with thin cyanoacrylate dispensed with the tip of a pin along the edge, not as a drop in the middle of the surface. First set the part on the hull dry and check that it is straight along its whole length and parallel with the side.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want fenders thin to scale instead of plastic ones
  • Builders of German subjects of the Second World War in 1:35
  • More experienced modelers with the basic equipment for photo-etched parts
  • Those planning a damaged or bent fender on a model

The set holds photo-etched parts, not a plastic kit. The glue, paints, tools and the base model are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. This is a photo-etched add-on set for a plastic kit you already own. You will not find the model itself in the package.

The set is designed for the particular Dragon 6747 kit. With another manufacturer or another version, reckon with modifications.

Sharp scissors or a scalpel to separate the parts from the fret, tweezers, a tool for bending photo-etched parts and thin cyanoacrylate.

Bending long straight parts is demanding in accuracy. We recommend having at least one simpler photo-etched set behind you.
