About product

Photo-etched fenders for the Sd.Kfz.186 Jagdtiger (Porsche Production) in 1:35

This is a specialized photo-etched set from the Czech maker Eduard, not a kit. It replaces the plastic fenders on a model of the German Sd.Kfz.186 Jagdtiger heavy tank destroyer in the version with Porsche running gear, in 1:35. Fenders are among the parts on ground vehicle models where the difference between plastic and metal shows best: a plastic fender always has an unrealistically thick edge, while photo-etched metal matches the real thickness of the sheet. Metal can also be bent, dented or partly torn away, so you can build the vehicle with damaged running gear, the way photographs of real equipment look.

The real subject

The Jagdtiger was a German heavy tank destroyer from the end of the Second World War, built on the lengthened chassis of a heavy tank, with a large-caliber gun in a fixed fighting casemate. Because of its enormous weight it had limited mobility and an unreliable drivetrain. It was made in two patterns of running gear; the Porsche variant is recognized by the different arrangement of its road wheels. On these vehicles in service the fenders were often missing or bent.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface and bend them slowly in a bending tool or between two blades. Do the deformation with a round tool on a soft surface; metal takes shape easily, but you will never get it back, so work in small steps. Cut the plastic fenders off and sand the surface flat so that the metal sits down. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Degrease and prime the metal before painting. Pigment weathering stands out around the fenders, because that is exactly where mud and dust collect in reality.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want fenders in the correct sheet thickness
  • Builders who want to suggest service damage and bends
  • Anyone interested in German Second World War ground equipment in 1:35
  • More experienced modelers who have worked with photo-etched parts before

The set is neither a model nor a kit; it is an add-on to a model sold separately. The paints, the glue and the tools are not included in the package.

FAQ

It replaces them. The plastic fenders are cut off the model and the surface is sanded so that the metal part sits down.

Yes, that is their main strength. The metal is shaped with a round tool on a soft surface, but work in small steps, as a bend cannot be undone.

No. It is a detail set, that is an add-on to a model of the Jagdtiger in 1:35, which is sold separately.

With cyanoacrylate glue applied in a small amount. Cement for plastic does not hold on metal.
