The Swiss arms manufacturer Mowag built the Eagle IV on the chassis of the Duro IIIP truck, and that is a fundamental difference from the earlier generations of the Eagle series, which built on the American HMMWV chassis. The vehicle is four-wheeled, fully armored and high enough for the crew to survive a blast under the hull. The Bundeswehr introduced it as a light protected patrol vehicle and deployed it in Afghanistan among other places.
Striking features are the short front overhang, the high-set windows and the hefty off-road tires that carry the whole weight of the armored body. It is exactly on the tires that a model shows most clearly whether the vehicle looks heavy or like a light shell set on little wheels.
The replacement wheels have the tire pressed in at the bottom and the sidewall pushed out to the sides, so the model sits on the base over its whole contact patch. The set is listed for the German variant of the vehicle. For Danish vehicles the manufacturer issued a separate item, and the two are sold separately.
The hubs are adapted for kits from the brands Vespid and Das Werk. The recommended procedure is to fit the wheels dry, level the vehicle on a flat board and only then glue. A loaded tire does not have a circular outline, and a wrong rotation shows at first glance on a finished model. The set belongs to the 1:35 size.
On patrol vehicles it pays to lift your gaze higher still. On the racks above the windows and around the roof cupola the crew's personal equipment tends to be stacked, and it is exactly this layer of small things that gives an armored vehicle the lived-in look a kit alone does not offer.
