1:35 Gothic Church window No.4 (3pcs)

1:35 Gothic Church window No.4 - Gothic windows for a sacred set piece

The set is a diorama accessory, not a model of a church. According to the name it contains three pieces of Gothic church windows in 1:35 scale and this is version number 4 from the numbered range from RT-Diorama. The windows are seated into the wall of a set piece the modeler builds himself.

Why a church in particular

A church is a landmark on a European battlefield: it stands on the village green, its tower serves as an observation post and its walls last longer than the buildings around it. In modeling scenes from Normandy, Italy and central Europe a sacred structure therefore appears very often, and its window is its most conspicuous distinguishing mark. A Gothic pointed arch with stone tracery comes across as well grown and, given its height, creates a strong vertical in a diorama. Three identical pieces in one set also make it possible to build a whole side wall of a nave with a regular rhythm of windows, not just one isolated detail.

Building and painting tips

• Draw the axes of the windows on the wall in advance and keep the same height of sill; irregularity is noticed at once on a sacred structure.
• Paint the stone reveal in shades of gray and beige in fine transitions, so that the stone does not come across as a uniform area.
• For colored stained glass, paint a clear film from behind with transparent paints and paint the bars in with a fine brush.
• Run a darker wash into the joints between the ashlar blocks and wipe the excess downward, so that an impression of running water arises.

Who the set is for

For builders of dioramas and vignettes in 1:35 who put up sacred architecture out of individual elements. The versions of the same range can be combined, so the main nave can be told apart from the side chapels.
