An injection-molded plastic kit of the Israeli Shot Kal Alef tank in 1:35 scale from Amusing Hobby. The model captures the vehicle as it looked in the fighting on the Golan Heights during the Yom Kippur War in October 1973. The package contains plastic parts on sprues, etched parts and a decal sheet; check the exact part counts and marking options against the instructions in the particular package.
The Shot Kal is an Israeli thoroughgoing modernization of the British Centurion tank. Israel obtained Centurions in the 1960s, but considered them thinly armored for the deployment in question and unsuitably powered for desert conditions. The rebuild brought an American Continental AVDS-1790 diesel engine and a new Allison transmission, which called for a raised rear hull. The Alef version was the first of the Shot Kal line and in 1973 played a key role in the defensive fighting at the Valley of Tears, where Israeli tank units held off a numerically stronger attack.
On a tracked vehicle, assemble and if need be paint the running gear and the interior first, and only then close the hull. Weather the tracks and road wheels separately. Brighten the base Israeli gray-sand shade on the flat faces and darken it in the recesses; then apply washes into the detail and dust pigments on the lower hull and the fenders. An airbrush and thin cement for plastic will make the work easier.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
