This set of Star Decals is tied to a particular conflict: the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. According to the name the bearers of the markings are the amphibious PT-76B and the T-54A and T-55 medium tanks, that is the equipment the Indian army deployed at that time alongside machines of Western manufacture.
The PT-76B is a light amphibious tank with a large, low-set hull, which moved through water by means of water jets at the rear. In terrain with a dense river network, such as predominated on the eastern theater, this ability was more valuable than the strength of the armor. The T-54A and T-55 medium tanks, by contrast, made up the striking component and were used in more open country. They are very similar to one another, but they differ in the detail of their armament and equipment, so before building it pays to check which of them your model covers. The conflict itself lasted only a few weeks at the close of 1971.
Indian vehicles from this period tended to be of a single color, which plays into the markings' hands, but it also means that every edge of film shows. Seat a decal, therefore, onto carefully polished gloss varnish and press the film down so that no rim is left anywhere. The PT-76B will take a pronounced water patina on the underside of the hull and deposits on the fenders; with the medium tanks keep the dust dry rather than otherwise.
