About product

1:35 Israeli M76 (OR-201) helmet - an accessory for figures

A modeling accessory of its own in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit or a whole figure but a small casting of a single object: the Israeli OR-201 helmet, in modeling practice also designated M76. You use it where the helmet molded on a figure is the wrong shape, or when you want a helmet set down in a diorama on the hull of a vehicle, on a crate or beside a seated figure.

The real subject

The OR-201 is an Israeli composite ballistic helmet, which the Israeli army introduced in the 1970s and used for decades. What sets it apart at first glance from the steel helmets of its time is a smooth shell with no pronounced brim and a conspicuous system of straps. It is exactly that shape which is the key on figures: the helmet is the mark of Israeli vehicles and infantry, and a simplified casting from a kit often fails to catch it.

Building and painting tips

Separate the accessory carefully from the casting block with a saw or a sharp knife, and never snap it off. If it is a resin casting, wash it in lukewarm water with detergent before painting to clear it of remains of mold release agent, and glue it with cyanoacrylate glue; a plastic part is joined with ordinary modeling cement. Do the sanding wet and with respiratory protection. Always apply a primer, otherwise the covering coat will adhere badly. Choose the shade according to the particular unit and period you are building. Paint the helmet separately before you set it on the figure: with a finished head in the way the work is much harder. Pick out the detail of the straps with a dark wash and the edges lightly with a drybrush.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of Israeli vehicles and infantry in 1:35 scale
  • Modelers for whom the shape of the helmet from a kit is wrong
  • Diorama builders who want equipment set down in a scene
  • More experienced modelers working with small castings

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The figure, glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is an accessory of its own, that is a casting of a single object. The figure you use the helmet on has to be bought separately.

Cut the original helmet off the figure and level the surface. Glue a resin casting on with cyanoacrylate glue, a plastic one with ordinary modeling cement. It is better to paint it before fitting.

Check the material on the box. The method is similar for resin and for plastic, and what differs is mainly the glue used.

Check the number of pieces in the package on the box. If you need to equip a whole crew or squad, reckon with several pieces.
