This is not a model of a vehicle or an aircraft but a scenic base on which you will stand a figure, a small piece of equipment or a whole little vignette in 1:35 scale. The manufacturer is the Czech label Black Dog, which has long specialized in diorama bases and scenic accessories and offers dozens of similar themes.
The theme is a cut of tropical jungle: lush vegetation, broken terrain and an overgrown ground surface of the kind you know from the fronts of Southeast Asia and the Pacific. It is precisely this setting that tends to be the most work when built from nothing, because it calls for patient layering of terrain and greenery. A finished base shortens that part of the work and leaves you mainly the painting and the fine-tuning of the atmosphere.
Before painting, tie the whole surface together with a coat of primer, so that the paints that follow hold well. Tropical greenery is never one color: work with at least three shades, let the dark tones run into the corners and suggest the lighter ones with a dry brush on the edges of leaves and on the rises. The impression of a damp climate is helped by a gloss varnish applied only in places, into the hollows and on the muddy areas. Stand the figure dry beforehand, so that you know where the main view will lead, and balance the scene accordingly.
