This injection-molded plastic kit captures the famous armed gun truck King Cobra, an improvised fighting vehicle used by the US Army to protect supply convoys in Vietnam. The basis is the five-ton M54 truck, on whose cargo bed an armored body derived from the M113 carrier was mounted and fitted with .50 caliber heavy machine guns. The set contains plastic parts, rubber tires, additional armor plates for the cab, side shields for the machine guns and a decal sheet with the name of the vehicle.
Gun trucks were created in the units themselves as a response to ambushes of convoys on Vietnamese roads. Crews lined the beds of their trucks with steel plate and armor and mounted machine guns so that they could return fire from the surrounding vegetation. The King Cobra was one of the best-known named vehicles. It used a solid body taken from a carrier hull and the concentrated firepower of several machine guns, which turned an ordinary truck into a mobile fortress.
With a vehicle of this type it pays to assemble and seat the running gear and the chassis properly before you close the body. Finish and paint the cab and the inside of the body before final assembly. Weathering sits beautifully on the olive green base — a lighter touch of dust, mud effects on the chassis and pigments on the lower areas give the vehicle the worn look of field conditions. Emphasize the machine guns and the shields with a light dry brush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
