This set from DEF Model brings a turned metal barrel for the 8.8 cm gun together with a resin gun mantlet and a muzzle brake for a model of the German King Tiger (Tiger II) heavy tank, in 1:35 scale. It is not a kit on its own but a detailing accessory that replaces the plastic parts with a more accurate and more faithful version.
The King Tiger, in German Königstiger, was a German heavy tank of the Second World War with massive armor and the long 8.8 cm KwK 43 gun, which was among the most effective tank guns of its day. The version with the Henschel turret was the most widespread; the characteristic long barrel with its muzzle brake is a defining feature on a model.
The turned metal barrel is perfectly straight and has a cleanly readable muzzle; it goes on in place of the plastic one. Wash the resin mantlet and muzzle brake free of mold release agent, cut off the casting blocks and clean them up. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Degrease the metal before painting and spray it with a primer; an even base coat will match the shade of the barrel to the rest of the model.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The Academy base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
