On Sherman tanks, photo-etched sets typically refine the fenders, the tool clips, the loops, the screens and grilles of the engine compartment, and the small metal fittings and extras that ought to be thinner than plastic allows. The result is a more faithful surface on the model and a better base for later weathering.
Cut the parts off the fret on a hard surface and make the bends along the etched grooves. Glue with super glue (cyanoacrylate) or with epoxy. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer. Washes and pigments for mud effects pay off especially well on photo-etched grilles.
