A scale replica of the American heavy machine gun M1917 in 1:35 scale by the Czech brand Special Hobby. It is not a vehicle kit but a separate accessory for a diorama and figure scenes, or a replacement for a coarser weapon supplied in a kit.
The M1917 is an American heavy machine gun of John Browning's design with a water-cooled barrel. The recognition features are the cylindrical cooling jacket around the barrel, the hose leading to the cooling container and the low tripod mount from which the weapon was served. It stayed in armament unusually long, so it suits scenes from the First World War right up to the postwar period. For modelers it is a universal accessory for American equipment and infantry scenes.
Separate the small parts carefully with a sharp scalpel or a modeling saw and clean them up with a fine file; with very thin parts it is safer to cut in layers than in one stroke. Before painting, spray the assembly with a base color, otherwise the thin coat will rub off on the edges. The metal surfaces look best in a dark shade with fine drybrushing, which brings out the edges of the cooling jacket, and with a dark wash into the recesses. If you want to set the weapon into a scene, unify it with its surroundings with a light application of dust pigment, so that it does not come across as a freshly unpacked part.
