This injection-molded plastic kit from Tamiya represents the American M26 Pershing tank in the variant still designated T26E3 before standardization. The set is typical for its precise fit, its faithfully shaped turret with the long 90 mm gun and hatches that can be built open or closed. Crew figures are usually included as well.
The M26 Pershing was an American tank named after General John J. Pershing. It was developed as a heavy tank under the designation T26E3 and was used in the very last stage of the Second World War; later it also served in the Korean War. After the war it was reclassified as a medium tank. Its 90 mm gun and thicker armor meant a marked step forward compared with the earlier American types.
First finish the running gear and the lower hull, and only then close up the superstructure. The compliant suspension makes it easier to settle the model into the terrain of a diorama. The base is flat olive drab, ideally applied with an airbrush. Bring out the engraving, the hatches and the rivets with a dark wash, suggest wear on the running gear and the edges with drybrushing and finish the dust or mud with pigments.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
