A decal set from the Star Decals brand in 1:35 scale focused on the M67 flamethrower tank, which the crews nicknamed the Zippo, in the armament of the American marines in Vietnam. This is not a kit but printed markings for a finished and painted model.
The M67 came about by converting a standard tank of the M48 series. In place of the gun it received a flamethrower, whose tube was hidden in a shortened shroud shaped so that the vehicle would look like an ordinary tank at a distance. The nickname Zippo arose after the well known lighter and took hold among the soldiers so thoroughly that it is used to this day. Flamethrower tanks with the marines did not serve on their own but in designated platoons attached to the tank battalions, so their markings combine the designation of the parent battalion with numbers and lettering of their own. It is precisely the lettering that is typical of the Vietnamese machines. Alongside the official markings, nicknames for the vehicles painted by the crews commonly appeared on the hulls.
The chassis and hull of the M48 have rounded shapes and a great many brackets, so large lettering is seated in parts. The short shroud of the flamethrower is a conspicuous element and it pays to leave its surroundings clear, so that the markings do not collide with the detail. Unify the base with gloss varnish, use a softener once they are seated and go over the finished model with a matte varnish. Add the dust and dusty effects only above locked-in markings. Take the manufacturer's directions on the packaging as binding.
