A detailed injection-molded plastic set of the separate Maybach HL 230 P 30 engine in 1:35 scale by the manufacturer Rye Field Model. It is not a whole tank but a power unit rendered in detail, meant for seating into the engine compartment of a model of a German medium tank with openable covers. The set is richly divided and makes it possible to display the engine as an exhibit of its own or in an open engine bay.

The real subject

The Maybach HL 230 was a gasoline V12 that powered a number of German medium and heavy tanks of the Second World War. The P 30 version was among its most widespread renditions and represented the leading edge of German tank engineering of the time.

Building and painting tips

• Glue the parts with a thin cement for plastic (liquid modeling cement).
• Assemble and paint the engine completely before closing the engine compartment.
• Metal and oil shades are well underlined by washes and dry pigments for the effect of fuel and lubricants.
