A cable drum is a rewarding scenic prop: it has a striking cylindrical shape, fills an empty spot well and in a scene legibly suggests a building site, a workshop or a technical support area. This variant is metal, which sets it apart from the wooden drum in the same diorama line — metal offers different weathering, different reflections and a different kind of wear. It is a stand-alone object of a scene, not a kit of machinery.
The same subject in three scales
The accessory is also made in 1:48 and 1:72 scale. The scale is the distinguishing detail — choose it according to the figures and vehicles in your scene.
You will use the drum on a building site, in a store, in the yard of a workshop, at a transformer station or in the support area of an engineer unit. In a scene it can stand upright or lie on its side, which is practical — a drum lying down hides an imperfect spot on the base and at the same time creates a natural support for a figure.
Separate the part from the casting residue with a scalpel or a fine saw and level the mating surfaces by sanding. Degrease it before painting and spray on a primer. Choose the glue according to the material — cyanoacrylate for small resin parts, thin cement for plastic on plastic. A metal drum looks best with a colored base followed by layered rust, a dark wash into the ribs and a dry brush on the edges. Wound cable can be suggested with thin copper wire coiled into turns, tied together with a dark wash. Finally weather the bottom with the same pigments as the terrain.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
