Twelve laptop computers in 1:35 scale for a modern scene: a command post, a workshop, a newsroom or a civilian interior.
Responsibility details are not available.
The laptop computer has become the recognition mark of the past thirty years just as the field telephone was of scenes from the 1940s. It appears on the table of a staff, on the hood of an armored vehicle, in the hand of a technician by an aircraft and among the belongings of a reporter. Twelve pieces in one package means a whole hall can be equipped, not a single table.
An ordinary fifteen-inch machine is in reality roughly thirty-five centimeters wide. After conversion the area it takes up comes out at around one centimeter, that is the size of a fingernail on the little finger. Details cannot be engraved at this size; they have to be printed straight into the casting, otherwise nothing will be left of them during painting.
The body usually makes do with a dark gray or graphite color supplemented by a light dry brush along the edges, so that the corners and the hinges stand out. A lit display can be suggested by a light blue-green area gone over with gloss varnish, which imitates the reflection of glass. A deeper shadow under an open lid then gives the impression that the screen really is lit.
In a scene it is a good idea not to leave all the pieces open. A closed machine laid on a pile of documents or slid into a bag looks more lived-in than a row of open lids. The set goes well with the office and technical equipment the maker works with in other items too, from drink crates to jerrycans and boxes.
Painting such small objects is best managed with a wooden stick to which a piece is temporarily attached with double-sided tape. That leaves a free hand for turning it and there is no risk of a casting ending up somewhere in the carpet, which at this size is no exaggeration.
